Funding

Adoption Support Fund

The majority of families who access Family Futures are funded through the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund (ASF).

Every child and young person who is adopted or under a Special Guardianship Order is eligible for the ASGSF.

Each child can receive up to £3,000 per year for assessments and therapy. This is known as the Fair Access Limit (FAL). This funding was cut significantly from £5000 (and £2500 for assessments) to £3000 in April 2025. You can read more about that here.

Our Treatment Packages will always prioritise the needs of the child rather than the constraints of the ASGSF. For this reason, in some cases, the funding needed will exceed the Fair Access Limit. In these situations, we will work with the family and their social worker to find additional funding through a range of funding sources.

The Social Worker for the family can apply to the ASF for assessment or treatment funding on the Adoption Support Fund website. Prior to applying for funding, the Social Worker will complete an assessment of need.

Alternative Funding Sources

Education Health Care Plans

Funding for Family Futures therapy can be included as part of an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) as part of Section F. Therapy through EHCPs must support the child/young person’s ability to access learning.

NPP therapy has a number of purposes and when focused on education it can:

1. Teach how to remain calm and available for learning:

Developing a sense of self and self esteem

Teaching about early life and how this impacts feelings and reactions today

Developing the ability to recognise and process feelings

Developing resilience in the face of change and unpredictability

Teaching how to form and maintain relationships, specifically those which make learning possible, that is, with teaching staff, pastoral staff and peers

Teaching how to effectively self advocate so that the individual can access help when they need it.

2. Assisting to develop executive functioning skills so that the young person can navigate the learning environment and learn effectively. Executive functioning includes the ability to self-monitor and regulate, to organise and manage information, make decisions and plan ahead. These are essential skills for future success.

For children and young people who are not adopted or under an Special Guardianship Order (SGO), funding can be sought directly through their Local Authorities resource panel.
