Anti Racism Statement

Family Futures stands in solidarity with all who experience racism and discrimination. As a team, we are committed to better understanding the systemic racism and inequality that is experienced in the everyday lives of global majority children and families living in the UK.

We recognise people use different language to identify themselves. By ‘global majority’, we mean Black African, Black Caribbean, Asian and dual heritage communities. Our anti racism commitment supports these communities and extends to all people who experience racism.

The Black Lives Matter protests in 2020 and the disproportionate impact of Covid-19 on global majority communities highlighted the urgent need to examine more closely what we can do, both as individuals and as an organisation, to tackle racial injustice, inequality and unconscious bias.

We are in the process of thinking together about our culture, policies and practices at Family Futures in dialogue with the families we serve, so that we are an actively anti-racist organisation in everything we do and can bring about meaningful change. We are working on an updated diversity and inclusion strategy which will be informed by our current discussions to embrace and develop the diversity of our staff team and foster an environment where everyone feels that they belong and they are able to perform to their full potential.

Our recruitment practices have been updated to reduce unconscious bias by using anonymised applications. We are also looking at how we can design our adoption, fostering, assessment, therapy and training services to better reflect the experiences and serve the needs of global majority children and families.
