TRAUMA-INFORMED PRACTICE
Supported by robust evidence and decades of clinical experience, Family Futures enables educational settings to become spaces where trauma is understood, behaviour is supported, and every child is empowered to thrive.
Why schools choose Family Futures
Children with complex trauma often exhibit behaviours that look like defiance, inattention or “misbehaviour”, but these are frequently the result of underlying dysregulated physiological responses, not deliberate choice.

If the nervous system is stuck in survival mode (fight, flight, freeze), the child cannot reliably access the cognitive and social resources needed for learning. Neurobody helps children down-regulate these survival responses so they can engage in school environments more successfully.

We bring decades of clinical experience, research informed practice and a deep understanding of how early life experiences shape learning, behaviour and engagement in school.

NEURO-PHYSIOLOGICAL PSYCHOTHERAPY
Neurobody is is the core therapeutic model we have developed over 25+ years, grounded in research and clinical practice. We recognise that trauma is not “just psychological” - it alters neurophysiological systems that underpin behaviour, learning, executive functioning and sensory regulation.

Meaningful improvements in areas critical to school success
Behaviour and Self-regulation
Children receiving Neurobody showed significantly greater improvement in behavioural regulation and executive functioning - skills essential for classroom engagement, impulse control and planning behaviours.
Externalising Behaviour
Neurobody was associated with significant reductions in externalising problems, such as aggression, impulsivity and oppositional behaviours that commonly lead to exclusion.
School Inclusion and Exclusion
Permanent exclusion rates were much lower: 9.4% in the Neurobody group vs 54.5% in the control group - a statistically significant difference indicating that NPP supports ongoing mainstream school participation.
Educational Attainment
Children in the Neurobody group were far more likely to meet National Curriculum expectations (78.8% vs 21.7%) and remain in mainstream education (75.8% vs 42.1%). These differences reflect not only behaviour change, but also genuine learning engagement.

2.  The Impact of Trauma and Abuse on Children’s Capacity to Learn
This training considers the impact of early life trauma on child development. It provides an overview of why school is so difficult for these children. Also the impact of poor sensory and motor development on learning. You will also be given practical, take home strategies for teaching.
3.  Neurodiversity Affirming Teaching
This will give you the opportunity to practise thinking about expectations and goals from the neurodiverse point of view (not as neurotypical) in language that is relevant to the neurodiverse child.

The course will emphasise on how to best support traumatised children in school by looking at the teacher-pupil relationship as well as provide with strategies and tools for teachers to support a child who has experienced abuse and neglect manage with the academic and emotional demands of school.
6.  SAFE: Supporting Attachment, Cognitive Functioning and Emotion
