First steps
Before you start your adoption journey with us, here's what you'll need to know about eligibility and how the process begins.
Eligibility criteria
You’re aged 21 or over
You (or your partner, if you’re a couple) must have a fixed and permanent home in the UK, Channel Islands or the Isle of Man
You (and your partner, if you’re a couple) must have lived in the UK for at least 1 year before you begin the application process
You can either be single, married, in a civil partnership, an unmarried couple (same sex and opposite sex) or the partner of the child’s parent
Prospective adopter(s) nor an adult member of their household has been convicted or cautioned in respect of a specified offence.
The prospective adopter or one of the prospective adopters is domiciled in the British Islands or the prospective adopter or one of the prospective adopters have been habitually resident in a part of the British Islands for a period of not less than one year before they apply to the court for an adoption order;
We are London based with a catchment area of ninety minutes travel to our offices in Finsbury Park, North London.

We recommend voluntary work to spend time with a verity of children, as well as books, podcasts and videos about lived experience of adopted young people and adopters. For advice on where to start contact our adoption team.
