Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Consultation
Purpose
For children and young people receiving treatment at Family Futures who may have been exposed to alcohol in utero. For children not currently in treatment, we advise families to start with a multidisciplinary assessment. Then as part of your post-assessment support, ensure that there is a thorough file search to identify likely exposure to alcohol.
What to expect
We bring together your Family Futures therapist, Dr Raja Mukherjee (a child and adolescent psychiatrist specialising in FASD) and you as parent (if you choose to be in the meeting too). Beforehand, we gather information to evidence likely alcohol exposure in utero, plus a developmental history, information about sensory or executive function difficulties, and psychometric questionnaires completed by parents/carers, school and your young person (if over 12).
Our approach
Specialist psychiatric consultation, which can lead to an NHS diagnosis through Surrey and Borders CAMHS.
