Modelling a better future for children and families

We are delighted to share the news that for the fourth inspection in a row we have been awarded Outstanding by Ofsted.

Thank you to all our families who spoke to the inspector, and to our amazing staff team who serve our community of families and professionals and make our pioneering work possible.

The Ofsted inspection in December 2022 found Family Futures to be outstanding in all areas:

  • Overall experiences and progress of service users
  • How well children, young people and adults are helped and protected
  • The effectiveness of leaders and managers

“The quality of all aspects of the service provided by this agency is outstanding. The agency’s adoption practices are innovative, thoughtful, insightful and highly effective in securing positive experiences for children and adults.”

“This agency pioneered bringing therapeutic and social work together many years ago and has continued to refine this approach to adoption. This multi-disciplinary approach has been highly effective in preparing prospective adopters and supporting children and families post-adoption.”

As we approach our 25th anniversary in April this year, it is fitting to hear we remain a pioneering agency, leading the way in modelling best practice and securing the best outcomes and experiences for adoptive, foster and special guardianship families.

We were moved to read the views of families spoken to by the Ofsted inspector about the role Family Futures plays in their lives, mentioned in the report:

“All members of the families spoken to talked exceptionally positively about their experiences and how the agency has enriched their lives. In particular, they appreciated what they described as the ‘human aspect’ of the agency. The adopters said that they felt cared for and that the agency exceeded all their expectations.

Staff help children to understand their life journey and make progress through fun and play. One child talked about the valuable support that they receive from kind and caring staff.”

We were also very pleased to hear in the report about our new therapeutic space in our Hornsey Road building which enables us to provide innovative, multi-disciplinary assessments and therapy for children and families:

“The agency has created a beautiful physical environment for children in which they receive their therapies. One child described it as a special place for adopted children.”

“Some adopters spoken to highlighted being able to access different therapies, including occupational therapy, under one roof as a real strength of the agency.”

Jay Vaughan, CEO of Family Futures said in response to the Ofsted report:

“Family Futures is proud to have been awarded another outstanding by Ofsted. It has been a challenging few years with the pandemic and the agency’s move to permanent premises, so to have retained our outstanding status is something we hoped and strived for, and we are absolutely delighted to have achieved.

This is a tribute to all the hard working and committed staff team at Family Futures and to all the amazing resilient and brave children/young people and their parents or carers we support, as well as the community of adoptive, SGO and foster families in the UK who we are committed to.”
