| PARENT MENTORING:
5-DAY COURSE |
 |
 |
Over the last decade Family Futures have pioneered 'Parent Mentoring'
in the field of adoption & fostering. Parent Mentors are
experienced parents who have been trained to educate, counsel,
support and develop parenting strategy programmes, for parents
who are caring for challenging children. Their role is to work
alongside social workers and therapists to provide a genuine
and effective "wrap around" therapeutic package.
The effectiveness of parent mentors is determined by their personal experience or parenting challenging children, their empathy for parents and traumatised children and an expert knowledge base.
Based on our experience of training and supporting parent mentors, Family Futures has devised a 5-day course for parents wishing to be parent mentors and for social workers who are training and supporting parent mentors. The course is also based upon our recently published book 'New Families, Old Scripts - The Adoptive Parents' Guide to the Language of Trauma and Healing Attachments'.
The course comprises the following elements: -
