Working with looked after children, children in foster care and children adopted or placed for adoption
A 3 day programme designed to introduce participants to the Family Futures M.S.C. Assessment Handbook; Matching, Siblings and Contact. Family Futures has a great deal of experience of providing assessments to court in care proceedings, helping local authorities to devise appropriate care plans and in diagnosing post placement difficulties.
The M.S.C. frameworks have evolved from our practice experience which we have integrated with attachment theory and an understanding of developmental trauma in child development. The M.S.C. frameworks cover core assessment issues in the new Adoption Support Assessment legislation and integrated core assessments. The topics covered are: -
- Matching – who are we looking for?
Matching children and adult attachment styles, both pre and post placement so that bespoke, support and intervention packages can be tailored to the needs of children, carers and parents
- Sibling placements – together or apart?
Accessing sibling attachments and whether the needs of individual children can be met in a sibling placement
- Contact – continuity or contamination?
The issue of contact is often a contentious legal issue in care proceedings. The impact of contact will be considered in relation to attachment and re-traumatisation of children who are accommodated or permanently placed in care
Participants will receive a free copy of the M.S.C. Assessment Handbook. Teaching will be in small groups and will encompass: -
- Theory
- Video footage
- Practical exercises
- Telephone mentoring upon course completion to assist participants in the application of the M.S.C. frameworks in their practice
