THE COST OF TRAUMA

FAMILY FUTURES FEES AND COSTS
Several hundred local authorities have now commissioned Family Futures to carry out assessment and treatment programmes for children who have experienced trauma in their early childhood, and are now, or needing to be placed in permanent families. These authorities are recognising the human and cost benefits of investing in therapeutic help for these children and families, to ensure placement stability.
Family Futures is a registered and inspected Adoption Support Agency. We do not receive any government subsidy or grant as we are a social enterprise organisation that is ‘not for profit’ and privately funded.
The government has recognised that adoption is the best option for the majority of looked after children who can not return home. The ‘Cost and Outcomes of Non-Infant Adoption’ (BAAF 2006) states that: -
- The cost of statutory social work intervention is £95 per hour for post adoption support. This is comparable to the hourly rate at Family Futures, which includes all our overheads and on costs
- Independent foster carers on average cost £630 per child per week (at 2001/2 prices)
- The average cost of a child in residential care is £2000 per week (CSCI report on residential care; 2006)
Family Futures has an exceptional success rate in keeping families together and its assessment, treatment and support programme therefore represents a cost effective way to invest in families and prevent disruption.
